Basic Pass Stance

Step 1: Stand directly behind the ball in the anatomical position
Step 2: Move your non kicking foot so that it is on the side of the ball straight in the direction you want it to go

Cue: "Foot Straight"

Basic Pass Prep

Step 1: Externally rotate the ankle of the dominant foot kicking the ball to 90 degrees
Step 2: Hyperextend the kicking leg whose primary muscles include the hamstring and the quadricepsposterior to the body

Basic Pass Movement

Step 1: Flex the kicking leg in the sagittal plane along the mediolateral axis, anterior to the body
Step 2: Make impact with the ball

Basic Pass Follow Through

Step 1: Continue flexion of the leg anterior to the body and the ball should be in rectilinear motion.
Step 2: Extend the leg posterior to the body and place the foot back on the ground

Basic Pass Recovery

Step 1: Perform the general motion of running after the ball was passed.

Drill:  1 drill that I would use to practice passing is called four corners. The whole team would be used for this drill. The team would be split up evenly into 4 different groups with the goalie in the goal. 2 groups would be placed on either side of the goal and the other 2 groups would line up directly across from them. Group one would pass the ball to the group diagonally from them. Group two would pass the ball to the team directly across from them and then group three would pass to the group diagonally from them where they would shoot on goal.

Penalty Kick Prep

Step 1: Run to ball in a curvilinear motion.
Step 2: Place non dominant foot on side of ball in direction you want the ball to go
Step 3: Hyper-extend the kicking leg posterior to the body
Step 4: Plantar Flex and rotate the kicking foot to 45 degrees along your ankles axis of rotation

Penalty Kick Movement

Step 1: Flex the kicking leg anterior to the body
Step 2: Make impact with ball and apply the right amount of force to make the ball go the right distance.

Penatly Kick Recovery

Step 1: Extend the kicking leg back and place your foot back on the ground to stabilize your center of gravity to maintain your balance
Step 2: Perform the general motion of running to follow the ball

Drill:  One drill that I would use to reinforce how to take penalty kicks is a drill called power and finesse. Each player on team would be fed a ball by the coach outside of the goalie box where they would then use all their power and take a shot on goal. Then they would go to a ball stationary on the penalty mark and take their "finesse" shot which didn't necessarily have to be a finesse shot. The rotation would continue until all players made both of their shots.

Basic Clear Prep

Step 1: Run on to ball in a curvilinear motion
Step 2: Place non dominant foot on side of the ball
Step 3: Hyper-extend dominant leg posterior to the body
Step 4: Dorsiflex and rotate the kicking foot 45 degrees of your ankles range of motion
Step 5: Place dominant foot under ball so that the balls angle of projection is at about 45 degrees

Drill: One drill I would use to practice the basic clear is a drill that pits the defense vs the offense. Since clears are performed primarily by the defense I would use this drill for them to practice. I would place four defenders against three offenders and then switch in the remaining players after each round. The object of the drill is for the defenders to successfully take the ball away from the forwards and clear the ball past the point to where the coach is standing and the forwards objective is to beat the defenders and score on the goalie.

Definitions

1. Anatomical reference position- erect standing position with all body parts, including the palms or hands, facing forward; considered the starting position for body segment movements.

2. Angle of projection- the direction at which a body is projected with respect to the horizontal.

3. Anterior- toward the front of the body.

4. Axis of rotation- imaginary line perpendicular to the plane of rotation and passing through the center of rotation.

5. Balance- ability to control equilibrium

6. Center of gravity- point around which a body's weight is equally balanced, no matter how the body is positioned.

7. Curvilinear- along a curved line.

8. Extension- the movement that returns a body segment to anatomical position for a position of flexion.

9. External rotation- rotation is away from the midline of the body

10. Flexion- includes anteriorly directed sagittal plane rotations of the head, trunk, upper arm, forearm, hand, and hip, and posteriorly directed sagittal plane rotation of the lower leg.

11. Force- push or pull; the product of mass and acceleration

12. General motion- motion involving translation and rotation simultaneously.

13. Hamstrings- the biceps femoris, semimembranosus, and semitendinosus.

14. Hyperextension- the rotation beyond anatomical position in the direction opposite the direction of flexion.

15. Impact- collision characterized by the exchange of a large force during a small time interval

16. Mediolateral axis- imaginary line around which sagittal plane rotations occur.

17. Posterior- toward the back of the body.

18. Plantar flexion- motion bringing the top of the foot farther from the lower leg.

19. Quadriceps- the rectus femoris, vastus lateralis, vastus medialis, and vastus intermedius.

20. Range of motion- angle through which a joint moves from anatomical position to the extreme limit of segment motion in a particular direction.

21. Rectilinear- along a straight line.

22. Sagittal plane- plane in which forward and backward movements of the body and body segments occur.

23. Stability- resistance to disruption in equilibrium.

24. Stabilizer- role played by a muscle acting to stabilize a body part against some other force.

25. Trajectory- the flight path of a projectile
